Professor of Infectious Diseases Department of Benha University, one of the most important university hospitals in Egypt, Prof.Dr. Mahmaoud Fawzy Atta Aly held on to life again after a successful liver transplant in Turkey. Prof. Dr. Aly ,who fought with liver failure for 10 years, brought his 13 relatives to Turkey. In the examinations, the tissues of the male nurse Ahmed Ashraf Rızk Zarif, the son of his brother who is also a healthcare provider, were found suitable. Professor of Egypt’s well-known physician Dr. Aly received a liver upon a successful surgery performed by his colleague Prof. Dr. Kamil Yalçın Polat.
Drug therapy did not work
The Egyptian Professor Dr. Mahmaoud, who had tested for the complaints he experienced in 2004, was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. Even after a long term drug treatment, Prof. Dr. Mahmaoud was still ill.
Hepatitis C caused serious problems in the liver as a result of intense work tempo and insufficient medication.
He was in the last stage of the disease
Hepatitis C progresses day by day and makes the liver inoperable. It started to negatively affect Dr. Mahmaoud’s life as well. Dr. Mahmaoud, who is trying to be treated in the insufficient facilities of hospitals in Egypt, started to search for organ transplant countries and doctors, as his condition worsened day by day. Professor Dr. Mahmaoud whose belly swelling was increasing day by day, reached the information of the head of Department of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation at Memorial Ataşehir Hospital, Prof. Dr. Kamil Yalçın. Prof. Dr. Mahmaoud came to Istanbul by making an immediate appointment, and he was examined by his colleague Prof. Dr. Yalçın Polat. Prof. Dr. Polat who has operated on many people suffering from liver failure and have them regain health with liver transplantation in Turkey, told his Egyptian colleague Prof. Dr. Mahmaoud that his liver failure was in its final stage and the only treatment was liver transplantation.
12 kilograms of acid was drained
Since he was in the last stage of liver failure, Prof. Dr. Mahmaoud and his nephew, the volunteer liver donor, was taken to the operation in the last week by the head of the Department of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation at Memorial Ataşehir Hospital, Prof. Dr. Yalçın Polat and his team. First, 12 kilograms of acid accumulated in the abdomen due to liver failure was drained. Then, the liver was successfully taken from the donor and again was transplanted to Prof. Mahmaoud with a successful surgery. Prof. Dr. Mahmaoud from Egypt, who had a new and healthy liver after an 8-hour surgery is waiting for the day of his discharge.
The donor is also a healthcare provider
Egyptian Prof. Dr. Mahmaoud Fawzy Atta Aly, who was unable to receive adequate treatment for his liver failure problem due to inadequate conditions in his country, immediately sent news to his relatives in his country to find a suitable liver donor for him. Thirteen relatives living in Egypt stated that they could voluntarily give Mahmoud a liver, who is very popular among his relatives. The tissues of the male nurse Ahmed Ashraf Rızk Zarif, the son of his brother, who was also a healthcare provider, were found to be suitable in the examinations performed on the volunteer donors who came to Istanbul immediately on the first plane.
The Other Successful transplants have impressed me
Stating that although he knew his illness years ago, he could not be treated or transplanted due to the inadequacies in his country. Dr. Mahmaoud said, “Several hospitals that do organ transplantation have been opened in Egypt in recent years. However, since most of the doctors of those hospitals are foreign and they accept patients at high prices. I preferred my colleague Prof. Dr.Kamil Yalçın Polat who has made successful operations and whose name is widely heard abroad. When I saw Dr. Yalçın Polat’s achievements on the internet and his other successful transplants, I immediately put myself in his successful hands. Although it has been a few days since the transplant operation, I am very well now. I will do my best to send all patients in my country here.”
A Magical Wand
Prof. Dr. Yalçın Polat who performed a successful liver transplant to his Egyptian colleague said, “When Mahmaoud came to our hospital for examination, he was in the last stage of liver failure. He could not meet his daily needs. The transplant was required immediately. Again, we successfully transplanted the liver we received from a healthcare provider donor as ourselves. Liver transplantation is like a magical wand which makes patients who are stuck with death well by touching. It makes us very happy to bring them back to normal life. The transplant I performed on a colleague made me extremely happy. Because Prof. Dr. Mahmaoud, who is now good with a successful liver transplant, will do good things for his own patients.”
