Abdülkadir Şen, 64, who has been suffering from Hepatitis B for 17 years, has used herbal mixtures and animal products for years in the hope of overcoming his disease. During this period, Şen, who attributed his fatigue caused by Hepatitis B to diabetes, was taken to the hospital one night thinking that he had stomach bleeding. Learning that he was in the last stage of liver failure, Abdülkadir Şen said hello to a new life with the liver transplant performed by Head of Memorial Ataşehir Hospital Organ Transplantation Center, Prof. Yalçın Polat.

Abdulkadir Şen, who was happy to regain his health after the operation, explained the disease process with the following words: “Herbal mixtures caused a waste of time for the treatment of my disease”

“After I retired, I started farming in Adapazarı. Until that year, I did not have any health problems, and I had been donating blood every year for 10 years. That year I learned that I could not give blood because I had hepatitis B. My family and I were very surprised by this situation. Upon the recommendation of a friend, I had hoped for many herbal mixtures and I even tried consuming a part of the liver of small cattle with lemon. I realized how wrong this situation was in April 2011. Upon bleeding from my mouth and nose, I thought I was suffering from stomach bleeding and applied to the hospital. As a result of the examinations, I was told that I had reached the final stage of liver failure. The plants I have used for years were just a waste of time for me. However, thanks to the liver transplant performed by Prof. Yalçın Polat, I got my health back. My daughter donated some of her liver to me without even thinking for a moment. I intend to work on organ donation in Adapazarı. I am telling everyone about my mistake and taking the first step as an example.

“I felt that I had the liver suitable for my father.”

37-year-old Aliye Şen, who was a donor to her father for liver transplantation, expressed her happiness for her father’s recovery with the following words: “When I learned that the only treatment for my father’s illness was transplantation, I started searching to find the right doctor. I was almost 100 percent sure my own liver would fit. Actually, we, 3 siblings, were all donors and my father did not want us to be donors at first. It was very difficult for me to see him in bed during his illness. I would do my best to make my father live longer, even for a year, and I am very happy that he is healthy now. I feel like I paid back to my father who gave a life to me. I was already a part of him and now I am even more.

Having successfully performed living donor liver transplantation, Prof. Dr. Yalçın Polat gave information about the operation and unconscious drug and food consumption:

“We did not use any blood in the operation”

“When Abdülkadir Şen applied to us, he had liver failure in the last 3 years and even reached the final stage. As a result, digestive system bleeding also occurred. These bleedings are extremely important; because it can lead the patient to death. If the patient is at this stage, the only treatment is definitely transplantation. We successfully provided the transplant without using any blood during Abdülkadir’s surgery. Unfortunately, Mr. Şen’s most important mistake was seeking healing in the herbal-style medicines he heard from his environment instead of going to doctor’s examinations. Things like herbal remedies provide nothing but distraction to individuals. And this caused Mr.Şen’s treatment only to waste time.

“Unconscious consumption of drugs and food damages the liver”

All nutrients consumed are metabolized in the liver, the main factory of the body. This, of course, tires the liver. Therefore, attention should be paid to the drugs and foods consumed. Arbitrary medication should not be used outside of the doctor’s controls. High-energy, dyed foods are at the top of liver-tiring products list.
