Leyla Öztürk’s, who suffered from liver failure and whose only hope was a liver transplant, three siblings were queued to give her their liver, but all three were not found medically compatible for transplantation. Her husband’s tissue also did not match. While the brother-in-law, who volunteered to give his liver to his sister-in-law, was about to undergo surgery, news came from the ministry of health that the liver was found. Liver taken from a deceased person was successfully transplanted to Leyla Öztürk. Stating that she dreamed that she had a liver donor, Öztürk said, “Two angels brought me the organ in my dream. Then the doctors woke me up and said that the liver was found. “I hope the person who donated his organ to me may rest in peace.”
Leyla Öztürk, 41, mother of a girl, became ill three months ago and was taken to Memorial Hospital. Ozturk’s medical condition was named Budd-Chiari Syndrome, and it was revealed that her liver could not fulfill its function properly due to the obstruction in the draining vascular system in her liver. It was understood in the examinations that the disease progressed and she would die if there was no emergency transplantation. Leyla Öztürk was registered to the waiting list of the Ministry of Health for organ transplantation. However, finding a compatible organ may take time, so the family was asked to be suitable volunteers.
Her Three Siblings and Her Husband Was Not Compatible
While Leyla Öztürk’s situation drowned the family in pain, her siblings lined up to give their liver. As the liver of her older brother was found to be small and her sister’s height was too short, they were approved by the doctors. The surgery was also found to be risky due to the excess weight of Leyla Öztürk’s other brother. It was determined that the tissue of Murat Öztürk, husband of Leyla Öztürk, did not match either.
The Liver of Brother-in-Law
However, the good news for the family came from the test results of Ömer Öztürk, Leyla Öztürk’s brother-in-law. When Öztürk’s brother-in-law agreed to be a liver donor, preparations began. Ömer Öztürk was admitted to the hospital for the final controls before surgery.
The good news came at last
But the good news came hours before the operation. The news came from the Ministry of Health that a suitable liver was found for Leyla Öztürk. While all preparations were canceled, the liver of a person who died and whose family donated his organs was brought to the hospital. The liver was successfully transplanted to Leyla Öztürk by the head of Memorial Ataşehir Hospital Organ Transplantation and General Surgery Department Prof. Dr. Kamil Yalçın Polat. Prof. Polat stated that the surgery was successfully performed and said, “Currently, her health is very good. If she hadn’t had a liver transplant, it would be life-threatening. She will return to her normal life after a few months at most.”
May he rest in peace
Leyla Öztürk, who came back to life again, stated that finding a suitable liver at the last minute was a miracle for her. “None of my siblings’ liver was compatible. They all tried very hard to save my life, but it didn’t happen. As I was about to undergo surgery, my number came up. I wish everyone had a liver from a cadaver like me in this situation. I don’t know who he/she is, but may he/she rest in peace.”
I saw in my dream
Stating that she had dreamed the night before that she had a liver, Öztürk said, “Two angels came in my dream and brought me an organ. Then doctors woke me up and told me that the liver was found. I told the doctors about the dream I had crying.”
